Ms Rachel
Violin Teacher
Rachel’s music education started with piano at the young age of 2. At age 9, she switched to violin, and has since gained experience playing in both classical ensembles and pit orchestras for musical theater. During her time at Northwestern, she focused on Baroque music and had the honor of performing with members of the Newberry Consort. She also taught classical violin and assisted with a chamber music ensemble for two years at The Musical Offering, a music school in Evanston, Illinois. In addition to playing violin, Rachel enjoys singing, and has sung in a variety of vocal ensembles, such as the Ashland Symphonic Youth Chorus and university ensembles during college.
Rachel grew up listening to traditional Irish music due to her dad’s interest and enthusiasm about the music, and decided to start playing the fiddle herself during college. After graduating from college in 2010, she went to Ireland for a year to be an au-pair for a family of Irish musicians. Living in Ireland for a year provided an unbelievable opportunity to be immersed in the music and to focus on the stylistic elements of traditional Irish music.
Rachel received her Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Northwestern University and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology at The Ohio State University. Her areas of interest include infant and childhood language development, literacy, and aural rehabilitation for children who are deaf or hearing-impaired. In addition to school and music, Rachel enjoys spending her time swing dancing, ice skating, knitting, and baking.
